These terms are the agreement between you and associlang for using the associlang website and apps (“the Service”). You accept them by ticking the box that says so when you open an account; if you do not agree with them, please do not use the Service. If the law of the country where you live gives you, as a consumer, rights that these terms do not mention, you keep those rights: nothing here takes them away.
This version is dated October 3, 2026. If you already had an account before then, its changes apply to you 30 days after we tell you about them (section 12).
1. Who we are
associlang is run by Haim Hai Yakovian, a sole trader exempt from VAT, ID number 305107872, based in Israel (“we”). You can write to us at [email protected] or through the contact page, and we aim to answer within 7 working days.
2. The Service
associlang teaches the vocabulary of a new language. Each word comes with a sentence that ties how it sounds to what it means, a picture and recordings, and comes back for review on a spaced-repetition schedule; there are also short stories. Reviews are free; a new word and a story cost coins (section 4).
Most of the course content (sentences, pictures, recordings and stories) is made with the help of AI tools and then checked. It can still contain mistakes: if you find one, please report it. We do not promise any particular learning result.
3. Your account
You can sign in with Google, with Apple, or with an email address and a password; an email account works once you confirm the address. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account. One account per person. The name you choose is shown next to what you write and on the leaderboards.
You must be 13 or older to use the Service. If the law where you live sets a higher age for using a service like this on your own, that age applies to you. If you are under 18, you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission to buy coins; a parent whose child bought coins without permission can write to us.
4. Coins
New words and stories are paid for in coins: currently 10 coins for a word and 70 for a story. What you unlock stays unlocked (a story can be read as often as you like), and reviewing words you have started is free.
You receive coins free when you join, on each day you study, for each association you write once it is approved, when someone likes an approved association of yours, and when a friend you invited starts learning (for up to 10 friends, section 9). The Coins page shows the current amounts. You can also buy coins (section 5).
Coins do not expire. They belong to your associlang account, not to a phone or a store account: sign in on any device to use them. Coins are not money: they cannot be exchanged for cash (except by a refund under section 6), moved to another account or used outside the Service. They are a personal right to unlock content in the Service, not your property, and have no cash value outside it. Where these terms promise a refund of your “unspent bought coins”, that means the coins you bought, up to your current balance, at the price you paid for them. In other words, coins you received free count as used first.
If a balance is wrong because of a technical error, a duplicate credit, fraud or abuse, we may correct it, and we tell you when we do.
We may change how many coins an activity earns, and what words and stories cost in coins. We announce a change to your disadvantage in the Service at least 30 days before it applies, or earlier where the law requires. If words or stories cost more coins, you can ask for a refund of your unspent bought coins until the change applies.
5. Buying coins
On the website, coins are sold in packs and paid through PayPal, with a PayPal account or a card. The price of a pack is shown before you pay, and it is the whole price. The coins are added as soon as the payment is confirmed, and the purchase and its receipt appear under My purchases in Settings.
In the iPhone and Android apps, coins are bought through the App Store or Google Play, which take the payment under their own terms and send you their receipt. Coins bought anywhere can be used on the website and in the apps. There is no subscription, and nothing renews by itself.
6. Cancellations and refunds
Purchases on the website. Before you pay, you tick a box to say that you want the coins now and know that once you use coins, the purchase can no longer be cancelled. After each purchase we email you a confirmation with the seller’s details, that consent and how to cancel.
Within 14 days of the purchase, as long as you have not used any coins since, you can cancel it for a full refund: press Cancel next to it in My purchases or on its receipt (the “Cancel a purchase” link in the site’s footer leads there), or write to [email protected] or use the contact page. Once you use coins, it can no longer be cancelled, and there are no partial refunds. The money goes back to the PayPal account or card that paid within 14 days of your request, with no cancellation fee, and the purchase’s coins are taken off your balance.
Words and stories. Coins already spent on words or stories are not refunded, except as the next paragraph says for the EU and the UK. If what you unlocked does not work or is not as described, we fix it or give its coins back.
In the EU and the UK. If you live there, the law gives you 14 days to withdraw from a purchase. For coins bought on the website, you asked when paying to get them at once and acknowledged that this right ends once you use coins; until then, you can withdraw with Cancel. You can also withdraw from unlocking a word or story within 14 days and get its coins back.
Purchases in the apps. Coins bought in the apps are refunded by the store that sold them, Apple or Google, under its own rules; Apple’s refunds are requested at reportaproblem.apple.com.
When a payment is reversed. If a payment is refunded, reversed or charged back, by us or by PayPal, Apple or Google, the coins it bought are taken off your balance, even if that takes it below zero. A balance below zero cannot unlock anything until coins you receive or buy bring it back up; what you already unlocked stays unlocked.
7. What you write
You can write an association for a word (a real sentence that links how the word sounds to what it means, one per word) and vote on other people’s.
What you write stays yours, but every association you publish stays in the Service for good. By publishing it you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, perpetual and irrevocable licence to store, show, copy, adapt (for example, fix a typo) and distribute it, in the Service and when we show examples of the Service; to let other learners use it for their learning; to make it one of the course’s own associations, shown without your name; and to use it, and how well it works for learners, to train and improve our AI models and to create and improve associations. Our service providers may do these things for us, as far as they need to. All of this continues after you delete your account, when the association is shown without your name. If an association you wrote contains personal information, or breaks the law or these terms, tell us and we will remove it from what learners see; training already done with it cannot be undone.
There is no tolerance for objectionable content or abusive users. Do not publish anything that is hateful, harassing, threatening or bullying; sexual or violent; someone’s personal information; someone else’s work or anything else you have no right to publish; illegal; misleading, spam or advertising; or not really an association. Coins for writing and for likes are paid only for approved associations, and we may take back coins earned by breaking these rules.
Publish only what you wrote yourself or have the right to publish. If someone makes a claim against us because of content you published in breach of these terms, you are responsible for the loss this causes us, as far as the law allows.
8. Moderation and reports
An association is shown to others as soon as it is written, and then reviewed: a first check is made automatically, with an AI model, and our team can review any decision. It is then approved, or rejected and hidden from others, with a short reason that its author sees. An association may be hidden for a while, after reports or after the automatic check, until it is reviewed. We may remove content that breaks these terms or the law, and warn, suspend or close the account that posted it.
To report an association, use Report next to it. To report anything else you believe is illegal or infringes your rights, such as your copyright, write to [email protected] with: where it is, why it is illegal or infringing, your name and email address, and a statement that you believe in good faith that your report is accurate and complete. We confirm that we received it and tell you what we decided. Notices of copyright infringement, including under the US Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), go to the same address with the same details and a description of the work you say is infringed; we close the accounts of people who repeatedly infringe others’ rights. We aim to act on reports of offensive or abusive content within 24 hours, by removing the content and, where needed, suspending the account that posted it, and on other reports within 7 working days.
If we remove your content or restrict your account, we tell you why and how to disagree: reply to that message or write to [email protected], and a person will look at it again. [email protected] is also our point of contact for users and for authorities under the EU Digital Services Act; you can write to it in any of the Service’s five languages.
9. Inviting friends
Every account has an invite link. When someone new opens an account through it and then studies on at least one day, the person who invited them receives coins (the amount is on the Coins page), for up to 10 friends in all. More friends can still join through the link, but they earn no coins. Each person can join through an invitation once, even after deleting an account and opening a new one. Share your link only with people who would want it, without spam, and do not use it to invite yourself. We may cancel coins earned through fake accounts or other abuse.
10. Emails
Emails about your account itself (confirming your address, resetting your password, confirming a deletion) are always sent. News and offers are sent only if you agreed to them, and each of those emails has an unsubscribe link; you can change your choice at any time in Settings.
11. Rules of use
Use the Service for your own learning. Do not copy, scrape, sell or republish its content (words, sentences, pictures, recordings, stories) outside it; do not use bots or other automated means with it; do not get around its limits or security, or take it apart except where the law allows; do not open extra accounts or fake activity to collect coins, likes or invitations; and do not harass anyone or disrupt how the Service runs.
The Service and its content belong to us or to those who licensed them to us. You may use them within the Service, for your own learning; this right is personal and cannot be transferred.
12. Changes
We keep improving the Service, so features may change or be removed, without taking away what you have already unlocked. If we ever close the Service, we will announce it at least 60 days before and refund your unspent bought coins.
We may update these terms for a valid reason: a change in the Service or in the law, or to prevent abuse. We will tell you about a material change by email or in the Service at least 30 days before it applies. If a change to the Service or to these terms harms you more than slightly, you can, within 30 days of being told, close your account and get a refund of your unspent bought coins.
13. Closing an account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings: we send a confirmation link to your email address. Deleting removes your personal details, as the privacy policy explains; your coins and progress are lost, and associations you wrote stay in the Service without your name, and we keep using them as section 7 says. If you bought coins in the last 14 days and have not spent any since, you can cancel that purchase (section 6) before deleting.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, commits fraud (such as fake accounts or payment fraud), or when the law requires it. Unless the law or someone’s safety prevents it, we tell you why beforehand and give you a chance to respond. If we close your account for a reason that is not your fault, we refund your unspent bought coins.
14. Responsibility
We provide the Service with reasonable care and skill, but we cannot promise that it will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors, including in content made with AI.
If you live in Israel, the European Union, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we are responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or of our negligence. We are not responsible for loss nobody could have foreseen, for events beyond our reasonable control, or for business losses, since the Service is for personal use.
If you live anywhere else, for example in the United States: as far as the law where you live allows, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties beyond those in these terms; we are not responsible for indirect or consequential loss; and our total liability for all claims relating to the Service is limited to the greater of what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim arose and USD 50.
Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that the law does not allow to be limited (such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud), or your rights as a consumer.
15. The App Store and Google Play
Your licence to use the iPhone app is granted under Apple’s standard licence agreement for apps (the Standard EULA), at apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula; these terms govern your account, the Service and its content, and if the two differ about the licence to the app itself, the Standard EULA applies. Purchases in the apps are made under the terms of the App Store or Google Play. Apple and Google are not parties to these terms.
16. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of Israel. If you are a consumer living in another country, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of that country’s law. Please write to us first: most problems can be solved that way. A dispute can be brought before the competent courts in Israel and, if you are a consumer, also before the courts where you live, as far as the law allows.
17. Open-source software
The website and the apps include two components licensed under the Mozilla Public License 2.0: Capgo’s Native Purchases (version 8.8.1) and Social Login (version 8.5.11) plugins for Capacitor, used unmodified. Their source code is available at github.com/Cap-go/capacitor-native-purchases and github.com/Cap-go/capacitor-social-login.
